Hoboken, N.J. —The Cinnamon Snail food truck—a vegan, organic takeout eatery on wheels that rolls through Hoboken and Jersey City—is gaining popularity so fast that it recently added New York City to its territory. So it should come as no surprise that it has won a Libby Award from peta2, PETA's youth division. The award is in the category of Favorite East Coast Food Truck or Cart. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people, businesses, and products.
"Every time The Cinnamon Snail pulls out of its stall, it proves that going vegan is the best thing you can do not only for your health, the environment, and animals but also for your taste buds," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "In fact, The Cinnamon Snail's gourmet dishes are so tasty that when it comes to flavor, they beat fat- and cholesterol-laden nonvegan foods at their own game."
The Cinnamon Snail's imaginative menu changes seasonally. Currently on tap for breakfast are the chipotle seitan ("wheat meat") burrito, maple pecan waffles, blue corn pancakes with real maple syrup, and much more. Sandwiches include the Korean barbecue seitan, the Creole grilled tofu sub on toasted baguette, and the al pastor seitan with beer-battered jalapeños, grilled pineapple, and greens with chipotle mayonnaise. The delicious pastries—which include organic donuts, cupcakes, cinnamon snails, miniature vegan cheesecakes, shortbread, and cookies—are made fresh every day. And the bevy of beverages includes organic fair-trade coffee, artisan ginger ale in various flavors, Virgil's root beer, and fresh-squeezed lemonade. The Cinnamon Snail's schedule is available on Facebook.
The Cinnamon Snail narrowly edged out Lettuce Eat Healthy (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Like No Udder (Providence, R.I.), and Mac'n Food Truck (Miami).
