Watertown, Wis. -- Seventeen-year-old Watertown resident Jordan Turner is being recognized for his tireless work in behalf of animals with a special honor from peta2, PETA's youth division: the Libby Award for Male Street Teamer of the Year. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Turner—who coined the slogan "Are You a Hooker?" to focus attention on the cruelty of fishing—won out over fellow male finalists from Albany, N.Y.; Plainfield, N.J.; and Toronto.
"Jordan has all the qualities of a first-rate animal activist: dedication, compassion, leadership, and knowhow," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "All of our active Street Teamers are winners because they're always coming up with creative new ways to make their communities—and the world—a better place for animals."
The group that Turner manages and cofounded, Global Conservation Group (GCC), is helping to take a bite out of the homeless animal crisis by raising funds to spay and neuter local cats and dogs. GCC has also become a fixture at McDonald's, letting customers know that the fast-food giant hasn't lifted a finger to stop the worst abuses of chickens killed for its restaurants. And to make it clear that there's nothing "relaxing" about fishing if you're a fish—who feel fear and pain just as all other animals do—Turner came up with the attention-grabbing poster slogan "Are You a Hooker?" Turner's crowning achievement to date was helping to stop IBC Airways from shipping monkeys from St. Kitts to the U.S. for cruel and deadly laboratory experiments.
The Female Street Teamer of the Year winner, Chelsea Dunstall, lives in Toronto. Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best cruelty-free cosmetics company to peta2's favorite animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.

Winners were chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
