Sexy Activists Hit Toronto for 'Bare Skin—Don't Wear Skin' Rally

Toronto -- Just in time for Fashion Week, PETA is taking its internationally renowned "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign to Toronto tomorrow. Wearing nothing but their underwear, sexy PETA activists will stand behind a banner that reads, "Bare Skin—Don't Wear Skin."
When: Tuesday, March 29, 12:30 p.m.

"Fashion is supposed to be all about innovation, but designers who still use animal skins are stuck in the Dark Ages," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "With all the luxurious, cruelty-free fabrics on the market today, you can get a 'to die for' look that no one had to die for."
Animals who are killed for their fur are electrocuted, poisoned, or gassed or have their necks broken. Some are even skinned alive. Cows who are killed for their skin endure painful mutilations and physical abuse on factory farms and cruel treatment during transport and slaughter. Exotic animals fare no better: Snakes, for example, often have hoses rammed into their mouths and are pumped full of water so that workers can more easily cut off their skin while they are still alive.
As Tim Gunn says in the video exposé that he narrated for PETA, you can "make it work" without using real fur, leather, or other animal-derived textiles, and several designers and retailers are doing just that. Top clothing designers—including Suzy Shier, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney—refuse to use fur in their creations. And many companies—such as H&M, Nike, Cole Haan, and Overstock.com—have implemented policies banning the sale of exotic skins.
