Toledo, Ohio -- Lying in pools of "blood" with their bare legs caught in a giant trap, fur-clad PETA members will converge outside Roth Furs and Leathers in Toledo on Wednesday. Other PETA members will hold a very realistic skinned "fox" and signs that read, "Trapped by Greed." Their point? That if fur-wearers got a taste of what happens to animals who are trapped or raised for fur, they might think twice about draping themselves in pelts.
When: Wednesday, February 29, 12 noon
Where: Outside Roth Furs & Leathers, 232 N. Erie St., Toledo
Animals trapped for their fur suffer excruciating pain before they are bludgeoned or stomped to death by trappers. Animals raised on fur farms go insane from being confined to tiny, filthy cages in all weather extremes before they are electrocuted, poisoned, or gassed or have their necks broken. An undercover investigation in China— the world's largest fur exporter—revealed that animals, including cats and dogs, are often skinned alive.
"The true feel of fur is pain and death," says PETA campaigner Hayden Hamilton. "With so many warm and fashionable fabrics available, there's no excuse for wearing fur."
