Raleigh, N.C. -- Accompanied by PETA's "I Am Not a Nugget" mascot, PETA members will distribute copies of the group's brand-new "Eggs Are Better Lost Than Found" leaflet (available here)—which explains in kid-friendly language why eggs are cruel to chickens and damaging to human health—to kids and parents outside Raleigh's Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday.
When: Saturday, April 7, 11 a.m.
Where: On N. Wilmington Street, between E. North and Polk streets, Raleigh
"If kids and parents knew how chickens on egg farms suffer their whole lives in cramped battery cages, they'd leave the colored eggs lost in the bushes," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "PETA is encouraging families to give chickens something to celebrate this Easter by sticking to healthy, humane vegan treats."
As explained in the new leaflet, eggs are loaded with artery-clogging cholesterol, and some are tainted with salmonella. What's more, chickens on factory farms spend their entire lives crammed into cages, stacked one on top of the other—and because male chicks don't produce eggs, they are discarded at birth, sometimes thrown into garbage cans or grinders while they are still alive.
