Windsor, ON -- Wearing nothing but sexy auto-mechanic retro outfits and holding signs that read, "Fill Up on Clean Energy: Go Vegan," a pair of PETA Petrol Pin-Ups will hand out free vegan jerky in Windsor on Wednesday. In addition to filling up their stomachs, the first 25 customers to line up at the pumps and try the vegan jerky will receive 5 free litres of gas, which will be pumped by a lovely Petrol Pin-Up. Gasoline prices aren't the only thing hitting Ontario residents in the wallet—Ontario Hydro electricity prices jumped as of May 1.
When: Wednesday, May 2, 12 noon
Where: Esso station, 824 Wyandotte St. E. (near Marentette Avenue), Windsor
In addition to causing animal suffering on a massive scale and raising consumers' risk of developing heart disease, cancer, and other killer diseases, raising animals for food is a leading cause of water pollution and land degradation. Also, a recent United Nations report concluded that a global shift toward a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. In fact, researchers at the University of Chicago determined that switching to a vegan diet is more effective at countering climate change than switching from a standard car to a hybrid.
"In a time of rising gas and energy prices and rising concern for the environment, we're going the extra mile to help Canadians fill up on vegan fuel for their tummies and gas for their tanks," says Petrol Pin-Up Emily Lavender.
