Los Angeles County, Calif. -- The competition to be named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door is heating up, and 24-year-old J Fields, 28-year-old Ryan Vance, and 32-year-old Cynthia Medina—all of whom reside in Los Angeles County—have beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become three of 20 finalists (10 male and 10 female). Two lucky winners—one male and one female—will each receive a free trip to Hawaii courtesy of the PETA Member Advantage Program.
"On average, vegetarians are slimmer and healthier than meat-eaters are—and they save the lives of more than 100 animals a year," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "One look at our radiant finalists proves that there's nothing sexier than kindness."
A hip-hop artist, Fields went vegetarian three years ago and vegan the following year after learning about the abuse of animals on factory farms. He says that his health has improved markedly and that he has more energy. Fields also recorded a public service announcement in which he talks about why he went vegan.
Vegetarian for the past 12 years and vegan for the past 10, Vance is an independent film director and producer. He holds a degree in fine arts from the University of Southern California and has a master's degree in film production from the London Film School. His hobbies include martial arts, weight training, basketball, rock climbing, and traveling.
Medina, who is a former flight attendant, went vegetarian last year out of concern for animals who are killed for food. She says that she lost 26 pounds and that her overall health has improved. Medina splits her time between Los Angeles and Zurich, Switzerland, and speaks four languages.

Three factors will be considered when PETA chooses the winners: the number of votes received from the public, the enthusiasm demonstrated by the entrants in living and promoting a vegetarian lifestyle, and PETA's assessment of the entrants' attractiveness.
