Waitsfield, Vt. -- Walk into any natural-foods store in the U.S., and you'll likely find an assortment of handcrafted, all-natural vegan cookies from Vermont-based Liz Lovely—and now you can simultaneously satisfy your sweet tooth and your desire to help animals, thanks to the company's new Creature Comfort Cookie, a portion of the proceeds from which will be donated to PETA. The chocolate chip cookie is chock full of pecans, cacao nibs, rolled oats, and coconut, and the packaging features farm animals in silhouette alongside the PETA logo. And to celebrate the partnership, through May 23, PETA is giving away two Liz Lovely cookie sampler packs in an online contest on PETA.org.

"Liz Lovely is as generous as its cruelty-free cookies are delicious," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "PETA is honored to have Liz Lovely's help in fighting abuse against animals—and we can't wait to get our hands on the next shipment of the delectable Creature Comfort Cookies."

What's so great about vegan cookies? Not only does vegan food have none of the animal fat or cholesterol found in eggs and dairy products, choosing delicious vegan baked goods also saves animals from enormous suffering on factory farms. Egg-laying chickens spend their entire lives in cages so cramped that they can't lift a single wing. Cows on dairy farms are typically kept confined to hard, abrasive concrete or manure-laden dirt. The male offspring of chickens and cows are useless to the egg and dairy industries, so male chicks are discarded shortly after birth—often by being thrown into high-speed grinders while they are still alive—and many male calves are shoved into tiny crates for the cruel veal industry.

Liz Lovely, Inc., is a 100 percent vegan baking company founded in 2003 by husband-and-wife team Liz and Dan. With its slogan "Baking a Difference," the company is committed to using all-natural and vegan ingredients, safe and sustainable palm oil, and green packaging.
