Washington -- Wearing nothing but strategically placed lettuce leaves and holding signs that read, "Get Fit—Go Vegan," a pair of PETA "Lettuce Ladies" will hand out free vegan jerky in Washington on Friday to participants of Bike to Work Day. In addition to getting a healthy, delicious snack, bikers will receive a free copy of PETA's vegetarian/vegan starter kit.
When: Friday, May 18, 7 a.m.
Eating just a single pound of meat is the environmental equivalent of driving more than 40 miles in an SUV. In addition, researchers at the University of Chicago determined that switching to a vegan diet is more effective at countering climate change than switching from a standard car to a Toyota Prius.
"Bikers who want to pump up their health and help the planet can make the biggest impact by switching to a vegan diet," says Lettuce Lady Virginia Fort.
