Long Beach, Calif. -- Queen Latifah won't be the only new face at the 2012 Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride festival. That's because PETA has dispatched a pair of bikini-clad "Lettuce Ladies" to liven up the event even more. The duo will hold signs that read, "Turn Over a New Leaf: Go Vegan." PETA wants Pride participants to know that the best thing that they can do for their health, the environment, and animals on factory farms—who suffer every day of their lives before facing a terrifying death—is to go vegan.
When: Saturday, May 19, 3 p.m.
Where: Pride event, Shoreline Drive, Long Beach
"The gay community has always embraced animal issues—especially veganism," says out PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews.
PETA has been working with famous members of the lesbian and gay community for years. PETA named Ellen DeGeneres "Person of the Year" for her tireless promotion of vegan eating, both on and off her show. Among PETA's other notable gay supporters are Tim Gunn, who has helped PETA fight fur in the fashion world; blogger Perez Hilton, who routinely pushes PETA campaigns online; Lance Bass, who launched a spay-and-neuter campaign; and vegan Sara Gilbert.
