Los Angeles -- Wearing nothing but sexy pit girl costumes and holding signs that read, "Rev Your Engines: Go Vegan," a pair of sexy PETA Race Car Girls will hand out free vegan recipes at the Hollywood finish line of the Gumball 3000 cross-county auto race on Thursday. Their point? That racing fans—and professional drivers—should be at least as concerned about what they put in their stomachs as what they put in their gas tanks.
When: Thursday, May 31, 7 p.m.
Where: Finish Line of Gumball 3000, Hollywood
In addition to increasing the risk of developing heart disease, cancer, and other killer diseases and causing animal suffering on a massive scale, raising animals for food is a leading cause of water pollution and land degradation. Also, a recent United Nations report concluded that a global shift toward a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. In fact, researchers at the University of Chicago determined that switching to a vegan diet is more effective at countering climate change than switching from a standard car to a hybrid.
"Car emissions pale in comparison to the environmental damage of the meat industry," says Race Car Girl Hayden Hamilton. "We encourage all race car drivers and their millions of fans to throw meat out the window before it causes their overburdened hearts to prematurely hit the 'finish line' and take delicious vegan foods for a test drive instead."
