South Jordan, Utah -- After a field of hundreds of entrants was whittled down to 20 finalists (10 male and 10 female), 20-year-old South Jordan resident Braydan Lundell was chosen the male winner of the 2012 Cutest Vegetarian Alive contest sponsored by peta2, PETA's youth division. Visitors to peta2.com cast their votes last month to help the group determine a winner.
"Braydan is a great example of the importance of acting on your ethical beliefs," says peta2's Marta Holmberg. "Going vegetarian—at any age—is the best thing that anyone can do for animals, the environment, and themselves."
Braydan went vegetarian at 14 and later went vegan after watching PETA's hard-hitting video "Meet Your Meat" and seeing shocking footage of animals raised and killed for food. Now, Braydan encourages his friends and family members to kick the meat habit—and he's persuaded his mother to try going vegetarian. He recently started a Twitter account dedicated to vegan activism, and—as a self-described "science nerd"—he loves watching Nova on PBS.
Braydan will hold the title for a full year. He and the female winner—17-year-old Ruth Slavin of Cedarburg, Wis.—have each won a professional photo shoot and will star in a peta2 ad.
