Norfolk, Va. — Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So, for the 11th straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks. O.co Coliseum, the home stadium of the Oakland A's, has claimed the number four spot on the list.
"Thanks to its array of meatless options, O.co Coliseum has moved up two spots this year on PETA's top 10 list of vegetarian-friendly stadiums," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. "O.co Coliseum is pitcher-friendly and vegetarian-friendly. The veggie dogs, veggie burgers, bean burritos, ancho chili mushroom fajitas, and other vegetarian options are as welcome to compassionate fans as Josh Reddick's great season has been."
Other big hits leading the vegetarian lineup at O.co Coliseum include meat-free tacos, a burrito bowl, a black-bean burger, a portobello slider, and crudités, including English cucumbers, broccolini, carrots, and celery.
The San Francisco Giants' home, AT&T Park, has been awarded an honorable mention this year for its offerings, including veggie tacos, a portobello mushroom sandwich, hot-and-spicy soup with tofu, and more.
Sliding into first place is Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, which serves barbecue pit–style vegetarian beef and decadent faux-chicken sandwiches. Climbing all the way to second place after receiving only an honorable mention last year is Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners and now home to vegan specialties like the Seattle chili veggie dog with vegan cream cheese and the IchiBan veggie dog with teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot, shredded nori, and creamy vegan dressing. Rounding out the top five are the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium. Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle, took top honors in the minor leagues.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
