Minneapolis -- Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So for the 11th straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks, and Target Field has grabbed the 10th spot.
"Baseball is as American as Target Field's 'accidentally vegan' apple pie. The stadium's other vegetarian options, which include a cone-shaped vegetarian 'walk-a-taco' and veggie burgers, are a big hit with Twins' fans, too—no matter where the team is in the standings," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein.
Other meatless options leading the vegetarian lineup at Target Field include meat-free burritos, vegetarian stir-fry, and the vegan mousse martinis, vegan pudding cups, and vegan panna cotta that are available to fans who order catering.
Sliding into first place is Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, which serves barbecue-pit-style vegetarian beef and decadent faux-chicken sandwiches. Climbing all the way to second place after receiving only an honorable mention last year is Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners and now home also to vegan specialties such as the IchiBan veggie dog with teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot, shredded nori, and creamy vegan dressing and the Seattle chili veggie dog with vegan cream cheese. Rounding out the top five are the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park, the Oakland A's O.co Coliseum, and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium. Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle, took top honors in the minor leagues.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
