Chicago — The competition to be named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door is heating up, and 31-year-old Chicago resident David Raymond may just take home the grand prize. He's beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 male contestants to advance to the final round in PETA's contest. Two winners (one female and one male) will be crowned PETA's Sexiest Vegetarians, and each will win a free trip to Maui.
"On average, vegetarians are slimmer and healthier than meat-eaters are—and they save more than 100 animals a year from factory farms, slaughterhouses, and fishing nets," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "One look at our radiant finalists proves that there's nothing sexier than compassion."
Raymond, a musician and an art director, has been vegan for eight years. He says his vegan diet has helped him to lose weight and gain muscle. He enjoys writing and performing music, running, and practicing Pilates. Raymond describes himself as the typical guy next door—with a little extra passion, creativity, and compassion. His turn-ons are composure and mindfulness, and his favorite thing about being vegan is that he doesn't have to take anything away from another living being in order to prosper.
