West Babylon, N.Y. — The competition to be named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door is heating up, and 31-year-old West Babylon resident John-Flor Sisante may just take home the grand prize. That's because Sisante has beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 male contestants to advance to the final round. Two winners (one male and one female) will be crowned PETA's Sexiest Vegetarians, and each will win a free trip to Maui.
"On average, vegetarians are slimmer and healthier than meat-eaters are—and they save more than 100 animals a year from factory farms, slaughterhouses, and fishing nets," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "One look at our radiant finalists proves that there's nothing sexier than compassion."
Born in the Philippines, Sisante works for a medical equipment company and is a part-time performing musician. He adopted a vegetarian diet last year after watching a close relative fight for his life because of what Sisante says was a poor diet. He recently went vegan after reading books about the benefits of a meat-, egg-, and dairy-free diet and watching the compelling film Earthlings. Sisante credits his diet with giving him increased energy and lower cholesterol levels, and his favorite thing about being vegan is the delicious food. He enjoys biking, running, and going to vegan restaurants.
