Grand Rapids, Mich. — The competition to be named PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door is heating up, and 22-year-old Grand Rapids resident Esther Looker may just take home the grand prize. That's because Looker has beaten out hundreds of other entrants from across the U.S. to become one of 10 female contestants to advance to the final round in PETA's contest. Two winners (one female and one male) will be crowned PETA's Sexiest Vegetarians, and each will win a free trip to Maui.

"On average, vegetarians are slimmer and healthier than meat-eaters are—and they save more than 100 animals a year from factory farms, slaughterhouses, and fishing nets," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "One look at our radiant finalists proves that there's nothing sexier than compassion."

Looker went vegetarian five years ago and is now making the transition to a completely vegan diet. A longtime animal lover, Looker decided to make the switch to a vegetarian diet when she started college, and as a result, the recent Michigan State University graduate is an expert on cooking healthy vegetarian meals on a budget. She credits her vegetarian diet with helping her to lose unwanted body fat and gain muscle mass. A newlywed, she and her husband—who made donations to PETA in lieu of favors at their May 1 wedding—share their home with three beloved rescued animals, Emma, William, and Daisy.
