Oakland Radio Stationi Receives Pro-Veggie Visitation

Oakland, Calif. -- Judgment Day is just around the corner—according to preacher Harold Camping of Oakland's Family Radio, that is. So to make sure that any planned last suppers are in accordance with Christian principles, PETA has dispatched an activist wearing a chicken costume—along with PETA special projects coordinator Carrie Snider—to deliver a delicious meat-, dairy-, and egg-free "last supper" to Camping, who has predicted that the Rapture will happen on May 21. The "chicken" will hold a sign that reads, "Make Your Last Supper Vegan," and Snider will carry a food tray with a sign attached that reads, "Blessed Are the Merciful." The action aims to encourage Christians to stop eating God's creatures.

"Today's factory farms and slaughterhouses are the embodiment of violence, bloodshed, and exploitation," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich, a devout Roman Catholic. "Christians need to understand that the peaceful message 'God is love' extends to animals and stop eating animal flesh."
Chickens, fish, cows, and pigs feel pain and fear just as intensely as the animals who share our homes with us do, yet they are abused in ways that would be illegal if dogs and cats were the victims. On today's factory farms, chickens and turkeys have their throats cut while they're still conscious, piglets are castrated and have their tails cut off without being given any painkillers, and cows are hung upside down and are often skinned while they're still able to feel pain. On the decks of fishing boats, fish suffocate or are cut open while they're still alive.
