Peach Bottom Township, Pa. — In the early morning hours of May 26, the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company responded to a fire on Juniper Road in Peach Bottom Township. While searching the house, firefighters found a dog in one of the bedrooms. They rushed the dog—who was barely breathing—outside and gave the animal oxygen using a special oxygen mask designed specifically for dogs, cats, and other animals. Approximately 20 minutes later, the dog was up and about and appeared to be unharmed. For the firefighters' heroic actions, the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company will receive PETA's Compassionate Fire Department Award.
"The compassion and heroism shown by members of the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company should serve as an inspiration to others to always help an animal in need," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Peach Bottom Township is very fortunate to have first responders who are ready to protect both residents and their beloved animal companions."
The fire department will receive a letter of appreciation, a framed certificate and a box of vegan chocolates.
