Nashville, Tenn. -- PETA sent a letter to Al Gore urging him to look in the mirror before criticizing President Obama for not being tough enough in pushing policies to reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions blamed for climate change. Gore made the comments in a recent article in Rolling Stone magazine. Even though the former veep knows that scientific studies show that raising animals for food has a devastating effect on the environment and contributes to climate change, Gore himself continues to eat meat. In fact, the official handbook of the Live Earth concerts—which Gore helped organize—even acknowledges that not eating meat is the "the single most effective thing" you can do to reduce your impact on climate change.
"Gore's refusal to adopt an eco-friendly plant-based diet makes you wonder if his addiction to meat is stronger than his desire to secure a better future for our planet," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "The evidence is overwhelming: If you really want to go 'green,' you should also go vegan."

The Honorable Al Gore
Dear Mr. Gore,
After reading your Rolling Stone article urging President Obama to do more to combat climate change, we at PETA are hoping that you've finally decided to do what the Live Earth handbook refers to as "the single most effective thing you can do" to reduce your climate change impact: stop eating meat. As you know, going vegan will help reduce animal suffering, your waistline, and your impact on the planet, so it's a win-win situation for everyone. After all, it wouldn't do to challenge the president's "climate of denial" while ignoring your own book's excellent advice.
Sincerely,
Tracy Reiman
Executive Vice President
