Fort Wayne, Ind. -- Holding a sign that reads, "Broken Wings and Legs," a giant injured "chicken" will repeatedly cross the road in front of a local McDonald's to lead a protest against the company's abusive treatment of chickens. PETA members will distribute leaflets to passersby.
When: Wednesday, June 13, 12 noon
Where: McDonald's, 1140 Fairfield Ave., Fort Wayne
McDonald's American suppliers are under fire for using an outdated killing method that often causes birds to suffer the pain of broken wings and broken legs, have their throats cut while they are still conscious, and be scalded to death in defeathering tanks. By requiring its suppliers to update their slaughter methods, McDonald's could eliminate all these abuses.
"Our chicken is crossing the road to remind people that the Golden Arches stand for cruelty," says PETA Director Lindsay Rajt. "As long as McDonald's buys its chickens from suppliers that cause birds to suffer, everyone in Fort Wayne should declare, 'I'm hatin' it.'"
