Charlotte, N.C. -- Wearing thongs with "Go Vegan!" painted in large letters on their bare buttocks, PETA supporters will hand out copies of PETA's vegetarian/vegan starter kit at a busy Charlotte intersection.
"We hope that by turning the other cheek, more people will be attracted to the idea of changing their diet," says cheeky PETA beauty Virginia Fort.
Animals on factory farms are mutilated without being given any pain relief; forced to live in filthy, cramped cages and sheds; and drugged in order to keep them alive long enough to be slaughtered. Also, eating meat, eggs, and dairy products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer, and raising animals for food is a leading cause of greenhouse-gas emissions.
