Dothan, Ala. -- Holding signs that read "Circuses Are No Fun for Animals" and "Boycott the Circus," PETA members will protest against the arrival of Cole Bros. Circus outside the Houston County Farm Center on Wednesday. PETA will explain to parents that the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently filed more than 10 formal charges against Cole Bros., including failure to provide adequate veterinary care to elephants and failure to hire personnel capable of caring for them.

When:   Wednesday, September 21, 3 p.m.

Where:  1701 E. Cottonwood Rd., near the intersection with Ross Clark Circle, Dothan

"Chains, beatings, domination, and privation are daily facts of life for elephants in Cole Bros. Circus," says PETA Director Delcianna Winders. "If your kids love animals, the last place you should take them is the circus."

The PETA members will explain to children and their parents that elephants used by Cole Bros. are jabbed with spiked metal bullhooks and are tied down and beaten to make them perform difficult tricks that are confusing and can even be painful to them.
