New York -- PETA members dressed as animals will join Occupy Wall Street on Monday, ready to discuss what's wrong with meat and dairy production and holding signs that explain how animals on factory farms are confined for life to filthy, cramped cages or pens until their throats are cut or they are dumped into tanks of scalding-hot water—sometimes while still conscious. "I am the 99%—of animals killed for food in America's corporate, intensive confinement-style factory farms," the signs read. "I don't want to die. Please help me: Go vegan!" The PETA "animals" will also deliver vegan pizzas to protesters, many of whom have specifically requested vegan food donations.

When:   Monday, October 17, noon

Where:  Zuccotti Park, Liberty Street and Broadway, New York

"Wall Street protesters have called out corporations for profiting off the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals and for actively hiding these practices," says PETA Campaigns Manager Ashley Byrne. "We're here to encourage everyone—from the street to the boardroom—to end animal abuse by adopting a cruelty-free vegan diet."

Factory farms deny animals everything that is natural and important to them, confining them to filthy, cramped cages, stalls, and sheds, where only a steady diet of drugs keeps them alive long enough to be prodded to the slaughterhouse. The consumption of meat takes a toll on human health, too: According to the American Dietetic Association, meat-eaters are more prone to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity than vegetarians are.
