Foxborough, Mass. — Visit a typical NFL stadium concession stand these days and you're likely to notice that among the greasy meat burgers and high-fat hot dogs is a growing number of delicious and healthy meatless options. So with the 2011 season hitting the midway mark, it's time for PETA's fourth annual ranking of the most vegetarian-friendly stadiums in the NFL. Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, has grabbed the number four spot in the first year that the stadium has been ranked.
Gillette Stadium offers the Patriots faithful an array of health-, animal-, and Earth-friendly vegetarian options. Veggie dogs, veggie burgers, hummus with vegetables, and a fruit cup are available at the concession stands, and a vegetable gyro and fresh fruit plate can be ordered in the premium dining areas.
"Gillette Stadium has more delicious vegetarian options than the Pats have weapons on offense," says PETA associate director and Massachusetts native Chris Holbein. "The best way to improve your health, help animals, and protect the environment is to throw the flag on meat and enjoy energy-boosting vegetarian fare."
Thanks to its mock-chicken sandwich and the addition of a superb seitan brisket and other vegan options to its menu, the Philadelphia Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field has clinched first place for the second year in a row. Rounding out the top five winners are O.co Coliseum (Oakland Raiders), Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers), and Georgia Dome (Atlanta Falcons). The stadiums that received honorable mentions are Qualcomm Stadium (San Diego Chargers), CenturyLink Field (Seattle Seahawks), Candlestick Park (San Francisco 49ers), and Ford Field (Detroit Lions).
