Denver -- Denver Nuggets power forward Chris "Birdman" Andersen is proof that one man can double-team fur-industry cruelty. At a special event at Denver's New Genesis homeless shelter, Andersen will join PETA members in giving away donated fur coats to the homeless—the only people who have any excuse for wearing fur. Andersen will also unveil his brand-new "Ink, Not Mink" ad for PETA, in which he shows off the tattoos covering his torso and arms above the words "Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin, and Let Animals Keep Theirs."

When:   Wednesday, November 30, 11:45am

Where:  New Genesis shelter, 1680 Sherman St. (near the intersection with 17th Avenue), Denver

"Animals, they don't deserve to be beaten or slaughtered," says Andersen in an exclusive PETA interview. "[L]ook at the video PETA's put together …. Be aware of what was really going on behind the scenes, and tell your friends and your family members … not to purchase fur."

For every cuff, collar, piece of trim, or coat made from real fur, an animal suffered a miserable life and an agonizing death. For this reason, many people have chosen to donate their fur coats to PETA for use in educational displays, to provide bedding for orphaned animals, or to give to needy people in the U.S. and overseas.

Andersen is one of a long list of athletes and other celebrities—including Amar'e Stoudemire, Gilbert Arenas, Tony Gonzalez, Chad Ochocinco, Dennis Rodman, and more—who have doffed their duds for PETA's anti-fur campaigns.
