Animal Advocates Among Finalists in This Year's Libbys

Los Angeles -- The hip-hop world doesn't just play host to some of the most innovative artists working today—it's also home to some of the world's fiercest animal defenders, including three of the finalists in this year's Libby Awards competition held by peta2, PETA's youth division. Canadian hip-hop artist k-os and Atlanta-based rapper Waka Flocka Flame are both nominated for the award for Most Animal-Friendly Pop/Hip-Hop Artist, and hip-hop heiress, Run's House star, and Pastry founder Angela Simmons is up for the award for Favorite peta2 Hottie. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com/Libbys can vote for their favorites in each category, and peta2 will choose the winners.
"When it comes to promoting animal-friendly attitudes, these stars are singing peta2's tune," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "Through pro-vegetarian campaigns with k-os and Angela, and Waka's pledge to stay fur-free, these hip-hop stars have inspired countless fans to make more compassionate choices."
K-os is a longtime vegetarian and peta2 supporter who starred in a pro-vegetarian peta2 campaign this year. Angela Simmons, who was inspired to go vegetarian by her uncle Russell Simmons, went a step further and stripped down Garden-of-Eden-style for her "Eating Meat Is a Sin: Go Vegetarian" campaign. Waka Flocka Flame also doffed his duds to show off his tattoos for an "Ink, Not Mink" ad.
Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best cruelty-free cosmetics company to peta2's favorite animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.

Voting ends on December 23, and the winners will be announced on January 17. The winners will be chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
