Columbia, Mo. -- Led by a person wearing a cow costume and holding signs reading, "Meat Is Murder," a group of PETA members will protest the annual Missouri Cattlemen's Association Convention and Trade Show on Saturday. PETA's point? That cows on factory farms are castrated, dehorned, and branded without any painkillers—and at the slaughterhouse, many are conscious when their throats are cut.
When: Saturday, December 17, 12 noon
Where: Outside the Holiday Inn Select and Executive Center, 2200 I-70 Dr. S.W., Columbia
"We're here to remind the Missouri Cattlemen's Association that killing animals for profit is nothing to celebrate," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "No matter how you slice it, steak is nothing but the flesh of an abused animal who felt fear and pain and did not want to die."
