Lawrence, Kansas -- They've already held a spring fashion show with an all-vegan dinner that fed more than 300 of their fellow University of Kansas students—so what's next for Compassion for All Animals? For starters, they've just been nominated for a Libby Award for Student Group of the Year by peta2, PETA's youth division. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com can vote for their favorites in each category, and peta2 will choose the winners.
"The students of Compassion for All Animals do a phenomenal job of spreading the pro-vegan message right in the Beef Belt—and they do it with style," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "Our dedicated finalists prove that the real winners are the animals these students work so hard to protect."
Just weeks after teaming up with peta2 to campaign for more vegan options in the school's dining halls, Compassion for All Animals joined with campus human rights and poverty relief groups to put together their first annual "Free Food Fashion and Compassion!" event. More than 300 students were able to sample the vegan menu—featuring over 25 dishes created by local cook Chef Stefanie Petrozz, including Oh My God Fried Chick'n and scrumptious grilled BBQ "beef"' tips, among other decadent dishes. After the eats, inspiring local animal rights advocates discussed ways in which everyone can help combat cruelty to animals. A glamorous cruelty-free fashion show—complete with a live DJ—capped off the evening.
Also up for the award are student groups from Penn State, the University of South Carolina, and the University of California Los Angeles. Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best cruelty-free cosmetics company to Street Teamer of the Year to peta2's favorite animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.

Voting ends on December 23, and the winners will be announced on January 17. The winners will be chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
