Food Truck Could Take Home a Libby for Proving That Its Mobile Vegan Cuisine Is Second to None

Portland, Ore. -- As if Homegrown Smoker's extensive menu of dishes ranging from vegan Mac-NoCheese to smoked chipotle "sausages" weren't enough to attract hungry diners, the Portland food truck has just been named one of four finalists for a Libby Award for Favorite West Coast Food Truck or Cart by peta2, PETA's youth division. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com can vote for their favorites in each category, and peta2 will choose the winners.
"Homegrown Smoker satisfies America's growing hunger for healthy and humane cuisine by dishing up to-die-for meals that nobody had to die for," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "Our impressive finalists prove that the real winners are the diners who get to chow down on delicious vegan cuisine."
The all-vegan BBQ truck serves up a wide array of sandwiches, including the vEggstacy, loaded with vegan "egg," tempeh "bacon," grilled peppers and onions, vegan cheese, and chipotle aioli; the Klammich, with nori batter-fried oceanic soy "klams," chipotle slaw, and remoulade sauce; and the Portobello Po' Boy with corn batter-fried portobello mushroom strips with sweet and sour onions. Homegrown Smoker is open on weekdays and located at S.W. Fourth Avenue and S.W. Hall Street.
Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best cruelty-free cosmetics company to Street Teamer of the Year and peta2's favorite animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.

Voting ends on December 23, and the winners will be announced on January 17. The winners will be chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
