Norfolk, Va. -- Four national food companies have just been named winners of Libby Awards by peta2, PETA's youth division, for their outstanding vegan food products, which can be found in more and more grocery stores every year. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. The winning products are as follows:
- Best Vegan Hot Dog: Field Roast Frankfurters
One bite of these delicious franks, and you'll never go back to those cholesterol- and fat-saturated meat hot dogs again.
- Best Veggie Burger: Gardein Ultimate Beefless
Burger
The name says it all: juicy, "meaty," and bursting with flavor. No one does fake meat like Gardein.
- Best Fake Meat: Gardein Chipotle Lime Crispy
Fingers
These delicious Gardein fingers are the perfect alternative to bony, greasy wings—which are for the birds, anyway.
- Best Dairy Alternative: Almond Dream Dessert
Bites From Hain Celestial
"Celestial" is right. These bite-size pieces of dairy-free almond ice cream are covered with creamy chocolate. Be careful: You can't eat just one!
- Best Vegan Snack: Kettle Brands Tias! Salsa
Picante Chips (from Diamond Foods)
Known for its crunchy kettle-cooked potato chips, Kettle has come up with a line of spicy corn chips that can only be described as ¡fantástico!
"All four of our winning companies prove that going vegan is the best thing you can do for your health, the environment, animals, and your taste buds," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "In fact, vegan foods have become so tasty in the past decade that when it comes to flavor, they often beat fat- and cholesterol-laden nonvegan foods at their own game."

Winners were chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
