Dallas, Texas -- "Bypass Heart Surgery—Go Vegan!" reads the ad—featuring a beautiful, busty nurse—that PETA wants to plaster on the sides of Dallas' ambulances. The group, which is offering to pay for the ads, wants to help combat the prevalent heart disease indicated by the city's ranking on Prevention magazine's list of "The 8 Most Artery-Clogging Cities in America."
In a letter to Mayor Mike Rawlings, PETA points out that meat, eggs, and dairy products contain no fiber and are loaded with artery-clogging saturated fat and cholesterol. According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity than meat-eaters are. A low-fat, meat-free diet has even been shown to reverse the effects of heart disease in many patients. In fact, PETA's 2010 Person of the Year, former President Bill Clinton—who underwent coronary bypass surgery in 2004—has shed more than 20 unwanted pounds on his new heart-healthy, plant-based diet.
"Our sexy nurse ads could help keep Dallas' residents out of its ambulances," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Medical experts agree that prevention is the best medicine, and one of the best ways to get healthy and stay healthy is to adopt a delicious, slimming vegan diet."

PETA's letter to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings follows.
January 19, 2012
The
Honorable Mike Rawlings
Mayor
of Dallas
Dear Mayor Rawlings,
On behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and our thousands of members and supporters in Texas, we are writing with regard to the worrisome appearance of Dallas on Prevention magazine's list of "The 8 Most Artery-Clogging Cities in America." We have designed an eye-catching ad (attached) that features an attractive nurse and reads, "Bypass Heart Surgery—Go Vegan." We're interested in paying to place the ad on ambulances in your city. Our ad would inform residents that one of the very best ways to reduce their risk of heart attacks and other life-threatening conditions, as well as their belt size, is to go vegan.
Overwhelming scientific evidence shows that vegans are far less likely to be overweight than meat-eaters are and far more likely to be in better overall health. The American Dietetic Association—the nation's largest group of nutrition professionals—concluded that vegetarians have lower rates of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer than meat-eaters do.
In addition, every person who goes vegan saves more than 100 animals a year. In today's industrialized meat and dairy industries, chickens and turkeys have their throats cut while they're still conscious, piglets have their tails and testicles cut off without being given any painkillers, fish are suffocated or cut open while they're still alive on the decks of fishing boats, and calves are taken away from their mothers within hours of birth.
We hope you will consider placing our ad on your ambulances. We'll even send our sexy vegan "nurses" to unveil the ad and pass out delicious faux-meat sandwiches to members of the community. Please contact me to discuss this opportunity. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Lindsay
