Tulsa, Okla. -- Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So, for the sixth straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks in the minor leagues, and ONEOK Field, home of the Tulsa Drillers, has grabbed fifth place.
"ONEOK Field might host the minor leagues, but when it comes to the delicious health-, Earth-, and animal-friendly food offered at its concession stands, it's a major league player all the way," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. "Even before the first pitch is thrown out, the Drillers is a big winner in our book."
Leading off the lineup at ONEOK Field are the vegetarian taco salad, bean burrito, vegetable wraps, and hummus tabouli platter. Batting cleanup are the fresh green salad, Boca burgers, three-bean salad, and standby veggie dogs.
Sliding into first place is Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle, which serves vegetarian tacos, a veggie “Philly,” and more. Coming in a close second is Frontier Field, home of New York's Rochester Red Wings, whose vegetarian specialties include vegan pizza, veggie dogs and veggie burgers. Rounding out the top five minor league ballparks are the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and the Wilmington Blue Rocks' Daniel S. Frawley Stadium. Finishing in first place in the major leagues is the Philadelphia Phillies' Citizens Bank Park, whose BBQ veggie "Pit Beef," vegan chicken-steak, and faux-chicken patty sandwich put the Phils over the top for the fifth time in the past six years.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
