Springfield, Ill. -- Lying nearly naked on large trays and covered with clear plastic in front of signs reading, "Meat Is Murder," PETA members will mimic typical meat packages—complete with oversized price stickers that warn, "Billions of Animals Are Abused and Violently Killed Because You Eat Meat"—on Tuesday in front of LongHorn Steakhouse in Springfield. The activists will also distribute copies of Paul McCartney's "Glass Walls" exposé of the meat industry as part of the effort to show how all animals—including humans—are made of flesh and blood and feel pain and fear. Even so, chickens, cows, fish, and pigs are made to suffer immensely before they are slaughtered for human consumption.
When: Tuesday, July 24, 12 noon
Where: LongHorn Steakhouse, northeast corner of Wabash Avenue and S. Veterans Parkway, Springfield, Ill.
"PETA is challenging people to really think about what meat is," says PETA Associate Director of Campaigns Lindsay Rajt. "When you eat flesh, you're eating the corpse of an abused animal who did not want to die. We're encouraging kind consumers to try going vegan."
