Nitido Host Dons Lettuce Dress for Group's Pro-Vegetarian Campaign

Miami Beach, Fla . — Telemundo host Natalia Villaveces has gone glam and green in her new pro-vegetarian campaign for PETA, which she unveiled on Thursday in Miami Beach. In the ad, Villaveces appears in a gown made of lettuce, cucumber, and kiwi next to the words "Let Vegetarianism Grow on You." The ad, which is available here, was shot by top photographer Ricardo Saint-Cyr.
In an exclusive PETA interview, Villaveces explains how PETA's "Meet Your Meat" video influenced her decision to go vegetarian, saying, "Once I made that connection between loving an animal and eating an animal is when things click[ed] in my brain."
Going vegetarian spares 100 animals a year from immense suffering on factory farms, in slaughterhouses, and on the decks of fishing boats. And it's good for human health too: According to the American Dietetic Association, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity than meat-eaters are.
In her interview, the Nitido host also stresses the importance of buying only products that weren't tested on animals and of adopting dogs and cats from animal shelters. "One of the things that really touch[es] my heart is to see how people can … spend thousands of dollars buying a dog instead of … [going] to a shelter and rescu[ing] a life," she says.
Villaveces joins a growing list of celebrities—including Alicia Silverstone, Vida Guerra, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Patricia De León, Alyssa Milano, Pamela Anderson, and many others—who have joined with PETA to help show people that going vegetarian is the best thing that they can do for their health, the planet, and animals.
