Hudson County, N.J. -- As if The Cinnamon Snail's extensive menu of dishes ranging from the Creole Grilled Tofu Sub to the maple mustard tempeh sandwich weren't enough to attract hungry diners, the Hoboken-based food truck has just been named one of four finalists for a Libby Award for Favorite East Coast Food Truck or Cart by peta2, PETA's youth division. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com can vote for their favorites in each category, and peta2 will choose the winners.
"The Cinnamon Snail satisfies America's growing hunger for healthy and humane cuisine by dishing up to-die-for meals that nobody had to die for," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "Our impressive finalists prove that the real winners are the diners who get to chow down on delicious vegan cuisine."
The truck serves up a wide array of sandwiches, including the Korean Barbeque Seitan (served open-faced on a grilled tortilla slathered with vegan chili butter, kimchi, and greens) and the Provençal White Wine Grilled Tofu Baguette (with truffled cashew "cheese," kalamata olive tapenade, and fried sage leaves). That's in addition to its mouthwatering desserts, such as the award-winning Crème Brûlée Bourbon Doughnut and the Mexican Hot Chocolate Glazed Twist. The Cinnamon Snail regularly travels to Hoboken and Jersey City and recently began serving diners in New York City. The truck's schedule is available on Facebook.
Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best cruelty-free cosmetics company to Street Teamer of the Year to peta2's favorite animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.
For more information about all the nominees, please visit peta2.com.
Voting ends on December 23, and the winners will be announced on January 17. The winners will be chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
