Indie Label Lands Libby for Promoting Animal-Friendly Attitudes

Los Angeles -- Some of today's most innovative artists—and dedicated animal activists—call Orange County's No Sleep Records home. Now, the label's constant efforts to speak up for animals have earned it the Libby Award for Most Animal-Friendly Record Label from peta2, PETA's youth division. No Sleep recently teamed up with peta2 for a free compilation that can be downloaded from peta2's Facebook page, featuring tracks from La Dispute, Balance and Composure, Aficionado, and others. Chris Hansen, the label's owner, is vegan and even includes "Go Vegan" literature from peta2 with every merchandise order. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products.
"No Sleep never rests when it comes to encouraging its artists and fans to embrace an animal-friendly lifestyle," says peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg. "When you open up a No Sleep package or compilation, you won't just hear some great music—you'll also learn why going vegan is the best decision you can make for your health, the planet, and all animals."
Also up for the Libby in this category were Fearless Records, Fueled By Ramen, and Equal Vision Records. Twenty-nine Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly band to the top animal-friendly celebrity. Each winner will receive a framed certificate and be featured on peta2.com.

Winners were chosen by peta2 based on equal consideration of three factors: the number of votes received, the quality of the animal-friendly product or the nominees' enthusiasm for being animal-friendly, and feedback from the nominees' fans.
